Gehärtetes Glas
Tempered glass is a type of safety glass that is much stronger than regular glass due to its manufacturing process involving extreme heating and rapid cooling. When it breaks, it shatters into small, harmless pieces rather than sharp shards. It is widely used in applications like shower doors, vehicle windows, and fireplace doors due to its durability and heat resistance, though it’s not recommended for wood-burning stoves.
Tempered glass is engineered for enhanced safety and durability, making it a preferred choice where ordinary glass may pose risks. It undergoes a process of extreme heating followed by rapid cooling, resulting in a much stronger product. When broken, tempered glass shatters into small, harmless pieces rather than sharp shards, which significantly reduces the risk of injury.
In addition to its strength, tempered glass is also heat resistant, tolerating temperatures up to 470°F, making it ideal for use in fireplace doors and other moderate heat applications. However, it is not suitable for wood-burning stoves due to potential structural weakening from prolonged high heat exposure.
This unique combination of safety and versatility explains why tempered glass is commonly found in shower doors, vehicle windows, and other high-risk environments. It offers peace of mind by combining functionality with protective qualities.
